Accounts Portfolio Manager

Full-Time | Office-Based with Agile Working

The Opportunity
TLB Consulting is proud to be working in partnership with a well-regarded and growing accountancy practice in Exeter, who are looking to appoint an experienced Accounts Portfolio Manager.

This is a senior, client-facing role offering the opportunity to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of clients while playing a key role in delivering high-quality accounting, compliance, and advisory services. You will also lead and support a team, contributing to both client success and internal development.


Key Responsibilities

Client Portfolio Management

  • Manage a portfolio of clients including SMEs, partnerships, and sole traders
  • Act as the main point of contact, building strong, long-term relationships
  • Ensure clients receive a consistently high level of service

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare and review annual accounts, financial statements, and tax returns
  • Produce management reports and ensure all deadlines are met
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS and current tax regulations

Advisory & Business Support

  • Provide strategic financial advice including tax planning, cash flow, and business growth
  • Support clients in improving financial performance and decision-making

Client Relationship Management

  • Handle day-to-day client queries and provide proactive support
  • Lead client meetings and present financial insights clearly and confidently

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor junior team members
  • Review work, provide feedback, and support professional development
  • Foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment

Quality Control & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain high standards across all client deliverables
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes and ensure best practice
  • Work with senior leadership to improve internal processes and client experience

About You

  • ACA or ACCA qualified (essential)
  • Proven experience within an accountancy practice environment
  • Experience managing a client portfolio and reviewing work at a senior level
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax compliance
  • Proficient in software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • A proactive, commercial mindset with the ability to add value to clients
