The Opportunity
TLB Consulting is proud to be working in partnership with a well-regarded and growing accountancy practice in Exeter, who are looking to appoint an experienced Accounts Portfolio Manager.
This is a senior, client-facing role offering the opportunity to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of clients while playing a key role in delivering high-quality accounting, compliance, and advisory services. You will also lead and support a team, contributing to both client success and internal development.
Key Responsibilities
Client Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of clients including SMEs, partnerships, and sole traders
- Act as the main point of contact, building strong, long-term relationships
- Ensure clients receive a consistently high level of service
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and review annual accounts, financial statements, and tax returns
- Produce management reports and ensure all deadlines are met
- Ensure compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS and current tax regulations
Advisory & Business Support
- Provide strategic financial advice including tax planning, cash flow, and business growth
- Support clients in improving financial performance and decision-making
Client Relationship Management
- Handle day-to-day client queries and provide proactive support
- Lead client meetings and present financial insights clearly and confidently
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor junior team members
- Review work, provide feedback, and support professional development
- Foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment
Quality Control & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain high standards across all client deliverables
- Stay up to date with regulatory changes and ensure best practice
- Work with senior leadership to improve internal processes and client experience
About You
- ACA or ACCA qualified (essential)
- Proven experience within an accountancy practice environment
- Experience managing a client portfolio and reviewing work at a senior level
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax compliance
- Proficient in software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- A proactive, commercial mindset with the ability to add value to clients
